Volunteering 2012

The 2012 Games are asking for 70,000 volunteers to act as Games Makers for both the Games and the Paralympics.

More volunteers will also be needed during Summer 2012, to work within local communities during this period.

The 60th Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II and the European football championships in Poland/Ukraine make this one long festival. This will be a catalyst for continued community involvement and an opportunity for people to offer their time for the benefit of others.

Have you considered volunteering in your local community?

  • Do you want to learn new skills, get out and meet people and make new friends?
  • Do you want to make a difference in your community?

Let the inspiration of the 2012 Olympic games lead you into making a personal change for the better. Better for you, by contributing to your local community and better for the people who receive your help

Could you be a Sport Maker?

  • Are you passionate about sport, health, fitness or physical activity?
  • Do you have skills or hobbies that could support others to be more active?
  • How about meeting new people or taking on a new challenge?
  • Do you want to be part of the London 2012 buzz and help create a volunteering legacy?

The Sport Makers programme will recruit, train and deploy 40,000 new sports volunteers aged 16 years and over. The programme will organise and support hundreds of thousands of new hours of grassroots sport, creating new opportunities across the country. As a Sport Maker, you will help bring the Olympic and Paralympic values to life in every community.

You could find yourself helping to deliver a participation event e.g. a fun run or open day at a local club, lead a group on a healthy walk, cycle ride or jog, helping to organise a tournament, a festival, a league. Whatever your skills and interests we can find an opportunity for you to be part of it.

Olympic and Paralympic values are brought to life for the Sport Makers through their orientation workshop so that they feel part of the Olympic movement and role model these values in raising participation As a result of their deployment, thousands of new opportunities for people aged sixteen and over to participate will be created.
