Thank you for visiting the web-site for the Commission on Personalisation Putting People First – Shaping your future, choosing your care

The Commission has been set up for many reasons, one being to discuss openly the question of future care for our growing elderly population and how it might be funded. The reality is that many people along with their family and friends don’t know what care is available or how much it is going to cost until they really need it.

By 2020 in Hampshire alone there will be nearly 15,000 more people over the age of 85 than there are today and more adults living longer with complex needs. The fact is the country’s care system is already under pressure and over stretched, and things need to change.

Over the next three years, the Government is reviewing how care is provided and paid for. It wants local authorities to provide care and support that is tailored to everyone who needs it, including offering them personal budgets.

  • How would you feel if you had to sell your home to pay for care?

  • Should the state pay towards social care for every person who needs it regardless of how rich or poor they are?

  • Would you be prepared to match what the council pays towards the cost of your care?

  • Would you like to receive money to arrange your own care with support and advice rather than having the care organised for you?

More information can be found by visiting The Commission homepage.

The web site gives you the opportunity to find out more about the types of things the Commission is looking at as well as all the background information and research in the field. It tells you how to submit evidence of your own experience of receiving care if you wish and also gives you the opportunity to provide your answers to the above questions.
