Fashion Fusion - A Show of Ethnic Clothing
An International Women's Project (IWP) is seeking funding to run a series of activities that are related to generations of women in different cultures.
This includes a debate at a local college, a trip to the Houses of Parliament, an art project, a 'celebration of women who have touched our lives' and a fashion show named Fashion Fusion that acts as the grand finale in April 2012.
The Fashion Fusion part of the project is actively looking for interested minority ethnic ladies who could help by giving advice about the making and wearing of ethnic clothing. Sewing workshops will be set up with a professional sewing tutor for these clothes to be made. All handiwork will then be modelled by local students or the minority ethnic makers themselves should they wish, on a catwalk. If you are interested, contact Milai Livingstone: milai.livingstone@hants.gov.uk
Fareham and Gosport Multicultural Group
This is a multicultural group that has recently been set up. It opens to all minority ethnics who work or live in these areas, to come together to learn about each other's cultures in a fun, family friendly way.
The Group has most recently presented its first event: Chinese New Year of the Dragon Celebration. It was a huge success in terms of attendance, sharing and learning some of the Chinese cultures via food making, calligraphy, painting, martial art and magic, to name but a few.
The Group is looking to run other cultural activities in the near future, if you would like to find out more, contact Milai Livingstone: milai.livingstone@hants.gov.uk
Gosport Well Being Network (GWBN)
This is currently a professionals meeting for all local mental health and well being agencies. The aim of the group is to share information of practice and experiences of working with black and minority ethnic service users. By sharing information, good practice, challenges and resources, it is the hope that we can collectively raise the cultural capability of the borough as a whole.
Currently this group is made up of various agencies but we would welcome input from local community members and leaders
