Safeguarding/Adult protection policy and procedure 2008 and related documents

Policy and procedures

This policy and procedure 03/08 replaces the 2005 version. In order to produce this updated March 2008 policy and procedure, key amendments Microsoft Word 108kb have been made to the 2005 version.

Due to some administrative errors found in the policy and procedure (in particular relating to the practice guides at the end of section 4 but also in some other parts of the procedure) an updated version of the Procedure 03/08 was placed on the website on 22 July 2008.

Local guidance for Adult Services staff on

Forced Marriages

In addition to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office guidance on Forced Marriages which is in section 10.4 of the Safeguarding/Adult Protection Policy and Procedures, the following guidance issued by Hampshire Constabulary must be followed. This contact with police colleagues must be before any other actions are taken, such as engaging an interpreter. It may well be that a police interpreter is the safest option.

It is imperative that if you become aware of an issue of forced marriage or a proposed forced marriage that this is reported to the police at the earliest opportunity. The issues are that women are being kidnapped, often taken out of the country, and held against their will to compel them to marry. This also often leads to serious violence or threats of violence and sometimes even murder.

Guidance on financial abuse

Specific guidance has been produced for Hampshire on the issue of Financial Abuse.

Guidance to assist in producing an in-house policy on safeguarding/adult protection

The Care Standards Act and the Department of Health Guidance "No Secrets" ask individual establishments and agencies to draw up their own in-house policy which should reflect the multi-agency policy and procedures. The two sets of guidance below are designed to assist in this task and have been approved by across agencies.

Leaflets that underpin the Safeguarding/Adult Protection Policy and Procedure
