Good Neighbour Award Scheme
The Hampshire County Council Awards recognise and reward volunteers and neighbours who support others in their communities. They acknowledge the contribution people make in enabling older people to remain living independently in their own homes.
Good Neighbours are not so hard to come by
Neighbours who go that extra mile have been thanked at Hampshire County Council’s eighth Good Neighbour Awards.
Hosting the ceremony in the Great Hall, Winchester, Leader of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Ken Thornber led the tributes to the vital support provided by 49 extra special friends, neighbours and community groups.
Cllr Thornber said: “The Awards, recognise and reward volunteers and neighbours who support others in their communities.
“It is heart warming to hear how neighbours are there for each other. For example one 80-year-old woman was described as a true angel of mercy after seeing her neighbour through two hip operations with daily hot food, warming cups of tea, always delivered with a beaming smile.
“Among some of the other acts of kindness celebrated were people providing transport to doctors appointments and lunch clubs, people who do gardening work or shopping for neighbours as well as those who are at the end of a telephone, day and night ready to help in emergencies.
“I wish to congratulate all of this year’s nominee’s who have helped change peoples lives and make simple day to day tasks achievable. All too often good deeds go unnoticed so it is such a great honour to take this opportunity to recognise their efforts.”
The awards were organised in partnership with: Age Concern Hampshire, Brendoncare Club Hampshire, Carers Together, Good Neighbour Support Service, and WRVS.
