Businesses supporting older people
What is it?
Join the Business Supporting Older People fund and help us to help older people in Hampshire. Your contribution will pay for repairs to their homes and support with gardening. It will help to stop loneliness by supporting social activities and befriending schemes.
Since the Fund was launched in 2008, businesses across Hampshire have donated more than £72,000 to fund projects supporting older people. In turn, they have benefited from using the Fund logo as well as ongoing PR opportunities.
Please help now by making a donation, which will be placed in a Grassroots Community Fund. Our target is to raise £100,000 from businesses across Hampshire.. This will generate income to be used for grants in perpetuity. There has never been a better time to give!
The Fund is supported by Hampshire County Council’s (HCC) Older People’s Well-Being Team, and run by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation (HIWCF), an independent charity which helps support local causes across Hampshire.
How has your donation helped?
Mrs Newing's boiler problem meant she was confined to one room of her home. With the support of the Fund we were able to arrange for a rapid repair by a qualified engineer for only £100. Now Mrs Newing is warm again and comfortable in her own home.
Hart Neighbourhood Centre helps older people learn about information technology. Supported with a £1,000 grant from the fund they can learn how to use the internet, which keeps them in touch with friends and family.
The Alton Community Club provides a social centre for older people, who are often isolated and lonely, to meet with new friends or take a trip out for the day. £1,000 from the Fund has made all the difference and puts a smile on these older peoples' faces.
These grants are separate from any statutory provision made by a local authority
