Hampshire Gardening Initiative (HGI)
Hampshire Gardening Initiative is a network of gardening projects, organisations and individuals throughout Hampshire. They offer gardening services, projects and have an interest in related gardening issues that benefit older people.
Why was is started?
In the first Older People's Well- Being strategy gardening came 2nd in the list of priorities, due ot the work of HGI and its partners in the refreshed strategy April 2011 - March 2014 gardening now comes 8th as a priority for older people
What does it do?
Identifies ways for older people to maintain their own gardens.
Finds imaginative ways to help older people whose gardens have become difficult for them to manage from a range of services.
Encourage older people in residential or sheltered housing to continue to actively participate in gardening.
