Bereavement advice and support
When someone dies it can be a very difficult and upsetting time. It is important that you give yourself time to grieve. Everyone deals with bereavement differently and you may experience a whole range of emotions. There are, however certain people and organisations that need to be told and specific documents and practical arrangements that need to be completed.
Practical arrangements
- Your GP must issue a Death Certificate
- You must register the death within five days – you can find out more on our registration pages or our information centre can tell you where to go. Make sure you check before you go that the Registrar is available. (You will need to take the Death Certificate with you)
- You will need to appoint a funeral director (they are listed in the Yellow Pages)
- If there is a Will it is important that it is found and read as soon as possible as it may have plans for the funeral in it
