Sport

There are many national and local sports organisations, clubs and groups that cater for people of all ages, with all kinds of disabilities. There are also organisations which cater for people with specific disabilities (e.g. amputees).

Local organisations

  • Basingstoke Dis-Sport Beavers - meets on Tuesdays for various sporting events for disabled people and their helpers. The group is for people with any disabilities.

  • British Disabled Flying Association - operating from Lasham Airfield in Hampshire, the BDFA provides 'experience of a lifetime' trial flying lessons for as many terminally ill & disabled people as possible every year, also subsidised flying days for other disability charities.

  • Disability Snowsport UK - aims to get anyone and everyone skiing regardless of their disability. Working with trained guides, those with visual impairment, deafness and learning difficulties can all enjoy taking to the slopes.

  • Hampshire County Council’s Disability Sport - organises sports events and works with partners to establish new clubs.

  • Lymington SailAbility - a charity that provides sailing opportunities for people with disabilities.
  • Return to Sport - an initiative run by Sport Hampshire & IOW which is aimed at those who have not played a sport for a while or who are completely new to the sport. These sessions are suitable for all abilities and ages over 16.
  • Solent Ski Club for the Disabled - operates from the Alpine Centre in Southampton and has Affiliated Membership of Snowsport England. Trained guides and helpers make it possible for anyone to enjoy the sport, no matter what their disability. We aim to deliver good quality ski teaching and guidance as a means of providing greater independence and enjoyment for skiers with a disability.
