Hampshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT)

The DAAT Support Team is responsible for commissioning and coordinating high quality substance misuse services across Hampshire.

The team achieves this by working in partnership with all those concerned in reducing the harm caused by substance misuse to individuals, their families and communities.

Two deaths amongst Hampshire heroin users

Two heroin users from the Fareham / Gosport and Portsmouth areas have died following the use of what is believed to be a batch of contaminated heroin. A further three people have been hospitalised following serious adverse reactions.

1st May

  • 36 year-old man died after being taken ill at an address in Almondsbury Road in Paulsgrove and being transported to hospital.
  • 39 year-old woman at the same address in Paulsgrove admitted to hospital following severe adverse reaction.
  • 40 year-old man in Southsea admitted to hospital following severe adverse reaction

2nd May

  • 33 year-old man died on after being taken ill the previous day and being transported to hospital in a critical condition.

3rd May

  • Woman admitted to hospital in critical condition following severe adverse reaction.

Hampshire Constabulary are investigating a probable relationship between all five incidents. It is believed that all five maybe linked to the same batch of heroin.

This presents a significant and immediate risk to heroin users in the Portsmouth and Hampshire area.
