What type of support can be provided?
The Supporting People programme brings together a range of services provided by different organisations. Services include:
- Wardens or scheme managers in sheltered housing
- Support workers to help with things like budgeting, advice with benefits, independent living skills and help with safety and security
- Telecare - Community alarms and sensors
- Citizens Advice Bureaux
- Long term lease holders
These services may be provided in your own home or in specialist accommodation such as sheltered housing or hostels.
The Supporting People programme covers only housing-related support services and does not include personal or social care.
Telecare Programme
Telecare alarms and sensors are a low cost risk management option for people that want to live safely and independently in their own home for as long as they feel able. The alarms and sensors are simple to use, providing reassurance and support in the knowledge that friendly and professional assistance is available every minute of day.
The Adult Servicers webpages provide more information on Telecare as well as details of Telecare contracts
Citizens Advice Bureaux
Supporting People has contracted with Rushmoor Citizens Advice Bureaux to help ensure that nobody loses out as a result of changes to the way housing support services are paid for.
People already receiving a qualifying benefit will automatically be funded through Supporting People. Otherwise, support workers/ providers should complete the forms to refer clients who may qualify. Qualifying clients include
- People whose income is just above the level for housing benefit.
- People who need high levels of support services (eg serious disabilities)
- People who appear not to be claiming any benefit

Eligible service charges include, door entry systems, hard wired or soft wired alarms and warden charges. Any queries in the first instance should be made to Jane Cleeve on 01962 832152 or e-mail jane.cleeve@hants.gov.uk
