Partnership working
The Civilian and Military Partnership
Until recently liaison with the Armed Forces has been maintained through a series of formal or adhoc arrangements. A Civilian and Military Partnership Board( CMP) is proposed to replace the current liaison arrangements. Membership of the CMP includes senior members and chief officers of the County Council, local authorities and Armed Forces.
The work of the Board will focus on a number of key areas- sharing information and forthcoming policy decisions to enable better service planning such as the funding and provision of transport infrastructure and educational facilities
- overseeing the Welfare Pathway Pilot
- short term projects with the Armed Forces
- assemble and deliver construction of joint projects to improve support facilities and services for the Armed Forces and the wider community.
Other Welfare Pathway pilots
The Ministry of Defence is also working with Kent County Council, North Yorkshire, Fife, Vale Of Glamorgan and Wigan to pilot the Welfare Pathway.
Hampshire Economic Military Partnership
HM Forces have a huge economic impact in Hampshire. The Hampshire Economic Military Partnership was set up in 2009 by Hampshire County Council to help improve the economic prosperity of service personnel, their families, veterans and reservists. This is being achieved through partners collaborating on a number of projects that will provide employment & training opportunities for this community to enhance their future prosperity.
Armed Services employment fair
An initiative of the Hampshire Economic Military Partnership has been the first Armed Services Employment Fair in Hampshire which took place on Monday 14 March 2011 at FIVE in Farnborough. The event, organised by the Career Transition Partnership with the support and sponsorship of Hampshire County Council attracted over 1500 personnel and 100 employers including BAE Systems and 3663 catering.
Approximately 22,000 serving personnel are stationed in Hampshire along with approximately 6,000 civilians directly employed by the Armed Forces.
Following their period of service, a large number of people choose to settle in Hampshire and need to find local employment. The Employment Fair helped service leavers, veterans and reservists recognise how their skills could be transferred, identify future career opportunities and provide useful contacts with prospective employers.
Military Economic Assessment
The Armed Forces and defence related industry presence in Hampshire and Oxfordshire constitutes a sizeable part of our respective economies. Both the MOD and local government have been facing significant change in terms of spending, employment and property; as such, the MOD, and both Hampshire and Oxfordshire County Councils decided to commission a report building a detailed picture of the economic impact of current and future military activity across Hampshire and Oxfordshire (the first of its kind.)
