Age Concern Hampshire

Havant Information and Resource Centre

14 Market Parade, Havant PO9 1QF

We provide a dedicated service, supplying information on a wide range of issues which confront people as they get older.  The topics we cover are wide and varied and are not only of use to the 50+ age group, but also to their families, carers, friends and anyone interested in the welfare of older people.

Contact with the Advice Centre can be by telephone or drop-in, the premises being located on a busy, easily accessible pavement position. Telephones are manned by advisors, for immediate response from a ‘real person’, and visitors are given the face to face contact, which is so valued by older people.

We can provide Information and Advice on a wide and diverse range of age related subjects which include :  Financial Entitlements, Housing Issues, Funding Residential and Community Care, Accommodation Options, General  Age Related Health matters, Personal Care Services, Support for Carers, Leisure and Education Opportunities.

There is always a full range of Fact Sheets and a comprehensive supply of relevant literature available free of charge.

We can also provide information about Age Concern Hampshire’s Trading products, Insurances, Funeral Plans, CareLine Emergency Personal Alarms and Stair Lifts.

The following services are available at no charge, but appointments are necessary  for:

  • Help with filling in forms
  • Free consultation with a solicitor

The small Retail Outlet in the Centre has a permanent display of aids to daily living to help older people stay independent in their own homes for as long as possible.

Computer Awareness Sessions for the 50+ are available by appointment on Tuesday and Friday mornings for those with little or no computer experience.  These are tutored on a one a one-to-one basis for a £4.00 suggested donation per one hour session.  Individual courses are over a 8 week period.

H50

This social and information morning is an innovative approach of providing a regular recreational and friendly event, whilst combining information, entertainment, refreshments and the opportunity to make new friends under one roof, right in the heart of the community.

The venue is located within the Meridian Shopping Centre Havant, less than 25 yards from Havant Central Bus Station, with its extensive network of routes throughout the whole of the Borough of Havant. There are always a wide range of exhibition tables manned by representatives from visiting agencies, and the morning is organised, administered and hosted entirely by the staff and volunteers from Age Concern Hampshire’s Havant Information and Resource with support from Angel Radio, the Local Community Radio Station for Older People.  Refreshments are provided at a nominal cost.  This monthly event is proving to be a beacon for partnership working within the Borough of Havant, but best of all it gives all older people something to look forward to on a regular basis.

H50 is every first Tuesday of each month between 10am and 12noon…….EXCEPT JUNE 2012

THE HAVANT BOROUGH 50+ FORUM

This important group, supported and mentored by the Havant Information and Resource Centre gives all older residents of the Borough of Havant the opportunity to make their views felt to those that make decisions on their behalf.  Their influence has grown beyond all expectations since their initial inauguration in 2002 and they were amongst the first to be invited to have representation at County Level on the County-wide Association of Older Peoples’ Forums.

Regular monthly local attendances usually total 35+ Local Older Residents and the ‘Have Your Say’ strapline encourages real debate and discussion, the outcomes of which are fed back to the Local Havant Older Peoples Wellbeing Partnership and the Local Authority

The Chair, Pete Walden has also been made Honorary Lifetime President of the Havant Borough 50+ Forum, due to his untiring work on behalf of older people living within the Borough of Havant.

He can be contacted on 02392 455552
