Activities training days
The training days are on hold at present and none are planned for 2013
The programme will assist carers in planning work with older people to provide a full range of activity ideas. It will also help the carer to think of new activities and expand their range of existing ones. The day is run by a qualified tutor and gives "hands on" experience of organising and leading activities, including exercise sessions.
The training days are aimed at those who care for older people in any capacity, to stimulate and interest the person being cared for. The National Care Standards Commission has specified a requirement for residential and nursing homes to provide a minimum half an hour per day of activities.
Confidence and self esteem are very important, especially for someone who may have been active and independent before giving up their home or those who still live in their own home being supported within their home environment and needing to feel in charge of their lives.
The course is not a qualification, but does provide an insight into what can be achieved to improve the older person's quality of life. A certificate of attendance is given to each attendee, together with a Handbook covering the ideas demonstrated and other ideas.
The cost of the day is £50 per head. Concessionary rates are available for groups of 3 or more from the same organisation. The days are run in a variety of Hampshire locations.
