Wellbeing at the Horrill Centre
Exercise Classes
We have three Nordic Walking sessions each week. As we have secured a sponsor for this activity, The Shelbourne Luxury Senior Living, Sway, who kindly paid for two instructors to be fully trained and purchased 24 pairs of good quality Nordic poles, it has meant that we can offer the activity at a very reasonable fee, which is then sustainable to the participants long term.
Classes are also run on Yoga, Tai Chi, low impact Aerobics, Body Conditioning, Circuit Training, Self Defence fitness and walks for health.
We also offer refreshments after activities encouraging the social interaction.
Healthy Eating Classes and Cookery Courses for MEN Only and LADIES Only
These sessions can be tailored to meet the needs of the participants from those who are unable to boil an egg, to those who are capable of preparing a complete meal. While learning to cook, participants are educated on how to eat more healthily, economically and safely.
Just sit, watch, listen, taste and enjoy! No hands on cookery, just observation.
Course Topics: Special Diets; 5-A-Day; Fibre; Food Labelling; Food Safety; Vitamins and Minerals; Hydration; Hypertension; Salt; Cholesterol; Fats and Sugar.
Learning new skills
A Computer and Internet training programme is run at the centre. This is one to one training at your speed with more formal group sessions on specific topics.
Support Groups
We now have two support groups at the centre - a carers’ group, which is a monthly meeting with up to 10 carers attending each session and with regular speakers. Also a Heart Support group, funded by The British Heart Foundation, which also meets once a month, this gives local heart patients a meeting place to speak to other patients over a cup of tea and pick up relevant BHF heart leaflets.
We have now set up a foot clinic for the clients attending the Centre as well as a hairdressing salon, both things to make life a little easier and more pleasurable.
Come and Enjoy the Fun!
