Access Hampshire Heritage

Who lived in my house before me?

What did our street look like 100 years ago?

Were the pub and the shop in the same place?

How do I find out about the history of my children’s school?

Access Hampshire Heritage will help you to answer these questions and many more by showing you how you can find out about the history of your neighbourhood. The project introduces you to typical archive sources which you can access from your own home, library, or community centre via the internet.

In partnership with 3 local history groups, selected items from their collections and the archives at Hampshire Record Office have been digitised. These represent examples of typical sources for local history for different types of community across Hampshire, and you can use similar sources to make a start on your own research.

The online resource was created by Hampshire Archives and Local Studies, with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Hampshire Archives Trust and Hampshire County Museums Service.

It is part of the national Archives for All initiative to make archives more accessible and to develop partnership projects between archive holders, users and community groups.
