Hampshire Archives and Local Studies

Opportunities for volunteers

We benefit greatly from work undertaken by our volunteers, which includes

  • detailed cataloguing of documents and archive film material
  • helping with dispatching mailings to our support organisation, Hampshire Archives Trust
  • representing the service at events such as local and family history fairs
  • taking archive talks and film shows out to communities

Although there is currently a waiting list for our volunteer projects, we welcome contact from those wishing to participate in the future. For those wishing to explore the possibility of a career in archives, we offer a job-tasting day once a year.

We add the contact details of those who would like to volunteer for Hampshire Archives and Local Studies/ Wessex Film and Sound Archive to a waiting list, and when we are recruiting for a volunteer task, we email this list, so all of our potential volunteers receive details and can apply to undertake the task.

Our annual taster day for those who want to find out more about the archive profession includes a tour of the office, the chance to discuss the archive profession, and an opportunity to try out our cataloguing system. These days focus on Hampshire Archives and Local Studies rather than Wessex Film and Sound Archive.

If you would like to join the list, or find out more about the taster day, please use the Contact Archives and Local Studies form linked from this page.
