I was trying to work out where to go for a walk with my Beagle as my mother had to be in Basingstoke for 3 hours. Your grounds look absolutely lovely and being a drizzly day in Oct I thought this would be ideal. My dog would have been on a lead and I would have picked up any poop she may have produced. I totally understand the dog free environment, but what a shame for the last month or two you are open there is no possibility of enjoying this historical sight with said dog.

Had a few hours to kill so visited Basing House with my 18 year old son. Much to my suprise he actually enjoyed it and seemed interested in its history. A bit of imagination and the site comes to life. If I am in the area again, a visit shall be made. Well worth the minor £5 charge to enter the site.

We love Basing House. It is never crowded and is great for a picnic or walk. With the Hampshire pass each year we can visit as many times as we wish for free. I have heard people moan that it is not interactive enough - use your imagination and encourage your children to as well - a novelty for many! But visit and enjoy the history, peace and quiet and artefacts.

We visited the house during the 450th anniversary weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour by Alan of the Tudor period of the house, he had it really interesting and it was lovely to see the details still remaining.
