The Basingstoke Canal Visitor Centre
The Canal Visitor Centre at Mytchett is the perfect place to start exploring the canal or simply relax and watch the boats pass by.
Our facilities overlook the picturesque canal and include an information point and gift shop, tearoom, picnic area, children's 'trailblazer' play area, function room, and a campsite. John Cale Canal cruises operate from the Centre hiring out pedalos, canoes as well as running public boat trips and chartered hire.
The towpath is easily accessible from the Canal Centre, so why not start your journey from here!
The Tearoom overlooks the picnic and play area and offers a wide range of fresh hot and cold food. It's ideal place to rest those weary feet and enjoy some delicious food. The Tearoom is open Monday to Sunday all year.
Outside, the children's ‘Trailblazer’ play area is a great place for kids to let off steam, and our picnic tables overlooking the canal are a great to enjoy a picnic while you take in the view.
There is plenty of free parking!
You can also purchase boat licences and fishing licences to use on the canal.
Hampshire and Surrey County Councils have commissioned a survey to examine future options for the Basingstoke Canal.
We would greatly appreciate it if you could spend a couple of minutes taking the survey.
