Basingstoke Canal

The Basingstoke Canal offers 32 miles of pleasant cycling alongside one of the most beautiful canals in Britain. And at the junction with the River Wey Navigation, the option to continue north to Weybridge or south to Guildford alongside the River.

There are only a few roads that have to be crossed, and the only hills are short and small, you'll find one at each of our 29 locks.

Access points are frequent and there is a pub every few miles!

Because the railway runs close by, you could return by train. These stations are all fairly near to the canal

  • Hook, Winchfield, Fleet, Aldershot, Ash, Ash Vale, North Camp, Brookwood, Woking and West Byfleet.
  • Weybridge and Guildford serve the River Wey.

The towpath is ideal for family rides and picnics. but please remember that the water is cold and deep, so keep an eye on those kids!

We hope you'll enjoy cycling along our canal, however, we do ask that you keep your speed down and ride sensibly, giving way to walkers.

The towpath is used by many people, most of whom won't hear you coming!
