The canal provides an ideal setting to explore the area, whether it be on the water or by foot.
Everyday many people use a section of the canal to walk along. It may be part of their daily route or just an occasional stroll in the evening.
Walking along the towpath allows you to observe the wildlife and take in the tranquil atmosphere; an ideal way to spend part of your day. Access points are frequent and there are pubs every few miles if required.
Dogmersfield landslip – towpath open

Aldershot towpath improvements – rolling closures
Grainger - the developer of the Wellesley development at Aldershot - will be carrying out towpath improvement works between Ash Lock and Eelmoor Bridge as part of their commitment to the wider environment. The works will be staged and will take place early February - March 2016. Sections of towpath will be closed in stages whilst works are carried out - suggested diversion routes will be posted on site.
The towpath is not a public right of way but is open space - it will be closed legally by notices made under National Parks & Access to the Countryside Act 1949 during the works. For your own safety please respect the instructions of contractors working on the site where the towpath remains open, and any barriers and signs put in place.
Ash embankment works – towpath closure
The towpath between Ash Wharf bridge and Ash Lock will be closed for approximately six weeks during February and March 2016 while contractors are repairing seepages in the embankments. Access to the Blackwater Valley Path over the aqueduct will be maintained but will only allow access to the Blackwater Valley Path on the other side of the A331 - not the canal towpath.
