Hampshire School Nature Watch

  • Grey squirrel by pupil at St. Patrick's School

Hampshire School Nature Watch gets children out of the classroom to enjoy nature at first-hand. Now in its 3rd successful year, more than 27,500 pupils from 182 schools will join the Nature Watch event in June 2008.

  • Drawing by pupil at Foxhills Primary

Outdoor study has many positive effects on children's behaviour, learning and health. Hampshire School Nature Watch grew from an idea that children benefit greatly from direct contact with nature.

  • Ladybird by pupil at Romsey Primary School

Children taking part in Nature Watch go into their school grounds to look for a pre-selected range of plants, animals and habitats. The project demonstrates to children and teachers that school grounds provide a great opportunity for learning about biodiversity and the natural environment, and that nature can be found everywhere. It also stimulates children's interest and concern for their local environment

  • Frog by pupil from Fryern Junior School

Children's survey results will help contribute to a better understanding of the wildlife found in Hampshire school grounds.
