Biodiversity

County Council Buildings and Grounds

The County Council has an extensive built estate and is responsible for on-going maintenance and new developments relating to services such as education, social care, recreation and heritage.

The Ecology Group works closely with other departments within the Council to secure due consideration for biodiversity in all proposals, to ensure biodiversity is protected and, wherever possible, enhanced through appropriate design and operational methodology. This includes ecological assessments of existing habitats and evaluation of the potentials for the presence of protected species.

The Ecology Group has also provided written guidance for the Property Business and Regulatory Services section of the County Council, in order to inform planning and decision-making in relations to their estate.
