Q : I have Ragwort growing in my garden/on my property.  What can I do to control/eradicate this?

A : Contact the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Q : I believe a tree near my property is protected with a Tree Preservation Order (TPO).  Is this correct?

A : Contact the local district council planning authority for your area.  They are responsible for TPOs and can advise you.

Q : Is my land designated for its value to wildlife?

A : Contact the Hampshire Biodiversity Information Centre.

The centre staff will be able to advise you whether you have a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation or other designation on your land.

Q : Are there any protected species on my land?

A : Contact the Hampshire Biodiversity Information Centre.

Q : Where can I get a list of woods to visit in Hampshire, especially bluebell woods?

Q : I am concerned about a hedgerow that is being cut down near where I live.  Who should I contact?

A : Contact the local district council planning authority for your area.  They are responsible for issuing hedgerow removal notices.

Q : Someone is cutting trees down in the nearby wood, field, garden, etc.  Who do I contact to see if they have permission/a licence?

A : Contact the local district council planning authority for your area to see if the trees are covered by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO), and/or contact the Forestry Commission on 01420 23337 to see if they require a licence.

Q : I am putting in a planning application for work on my house.  What species surveys do I need?

A : Contact the local district council planning authority's ecological advisor for guidance.

Q : What is the snake I've seen in my garden/how can I encourage the hedgehogs in my garden, etc.?
