Climate Change and Biodiversity


Our changing climate will have wide ranging influences on biodiversity.  Some impacts will be negative, such as loss of saltmarsh to sea level rise, others will be positive - we have already welcomed the arrival of the Little Egret from the continent to our shores.

There is increasing evidence available to predict the influence of climate change on biodiversity.  It is essential that we plan now for this change, to assist biodiversity to be resilient to adverse change, and to nurture change that is acceptable and beneficial.


Hampshire County Council has established a Commission of Inquiry on Climate Change to identify and prioritise action to address impacts.
