Do I qualify for a Blue badge?
You automatically qualify if:
- You receive Disability Living Allowance at the higher rate for help with getting around. (please provide an official letter confirming that you receive the allowance or vehicle excise duty exemption certificate or a copy of your registration document showing the tax exempt class of 'disabled')
- You receive a War Pensioners Mobility Supplement. (please provide an official letter confirming that you receive war pensioner's mobility supplement or a vehicle exicse duty exemption certificate, or a copy of your vehicle registration document showing the tax exempt class as 'disabled')
- You use a motor vehicle supplied for disabled people by a Government Health Department. (please provide official evidence)
- You are registered blind. (please provide a copy of your registration card)
- You have a severe disability in both upper limbs, regularly drive a motor vehicle but cannot turn the steering wheel of the vehicle by hand even if that wheel is fitted with a turning knob.
- You have a severe disability in both upper limbs, regularly drive a motor vehicle but are unable to operate parking metres or pay & display equipment.
- You are applying for a Blue Badge on behalf of a child under the age of two who, because of specific medical conditions, needs to travel with bulky medical equipment
You may qualify if:
- You have a permanent and substantial disability which means that you are unable to walk or have very considerable difficulty in walking.
You do not qualify if:
- You have a psychological disorder, learning or behavioural problems. This will not normally qualify you unless their impairment causes very considerable, and not intermittent, difficulty in walking.
- You have a disabling condition that is only temporary, such as a broken leg.
How do you decide if I qualify for a Blue Badge?
You need to complete a Blue Badge application form. When we receive that form a decision will be made on the basis of your individual circumstances and within the terms of the regulations.
