Bright Ideas From Hampshire Libraries – Celebrating The Jubilee

The countdown has begun to the Diamond Jubilee weekend and for many residents across Hampshire, plans are underway for street parties and celebrations. But if you’re after some creative ideas about how to bring the royal touch to your recipes or fancy up your festivities, don’t forget Hampshire libraries have a host of information at hand to give your Diamond Jubilee celebrations that extra special sparkle.

Hampshire has one of the largest library services in the country, with 50 libraries and three Discovery Centres, holding over two million items of stock including books, films and many more resources.

If you’re looking for ways to create a home fit for a queen or just looking for some delicious recipes for your royal rumble, your local library is packed with cook books of every kind, and advice on low-cost decorating ideas.

Public computers are available in every library and provide free access to the internet. WiFi is also available in several libraries giving you the opportunity to research ideas for fun games and outdoor activities to keep everyone occupied over the long weekend.

If you’d just like to learn more about the history of the Jubilee and what it means to Britain without heading down to the library, Hampshire has the largest online library service in the country, so you can access Reference Online collections and eBooks from the comfort of your own home.

CD’s and DVD’s are available to borrow too, just in case the National Anthem is missing from your Jubilee soundtrack.

Remember, there are a range of Diamond Jubilee themed events going on in Hampshire’s Libraries in the next few weeks, and more details can be found on each library’s individual website.
