Faster broadband - getting Hampshire connected
Faster broadband gets the green light in Hampshire
Hampshire is to get £5 million of government funding to take forward its proposals for faster broadband. The allocation is to be matched by local public and private finance.
What is the funding for?
The government funding is part of plans to ensure that everyone in the country will have access to broadband by 2015. Together with commercial investment, the funding will bring faster broadband to at least 90 per cent of homes and businesses in the UK and to provide universal access to standard broadband with a speed of at least 2Mbps.
A three year programme of improvements
It will take time to bring faster broadband to everyone in Hampshire and the overall programme will last for three years. Our immediate next steps are to secure a commercial partner to support and develop detailed implementation plans for the county. We can then publish a timetable for the planned roll out.
The campaign for faster broadband continues
A vital component of the Hampshire broadband plan is raising public awareness and support for improved broadband. For this reason, the campaign for faster broadband in Hampshire continues, with many thousands of people already signed up. Individuals and businesses are encouraged to continue to register their interest.
