Sustainable Business in Hampshire
Sustainability is fast rising up the agenda for businesses of all shapes and sizes, and features increasingly at the heart of many organisations’ decision-making processes.
Reducing your energy consumption can improve your bottom line.
Use of new technologies can give your business an extra competitive edge.
Structured training and staff support contributes to improved business practices and more informed decision-making.
Local sourcing reduces transportation costs and supports the local economy.
Awareness of legislation ensures compliance and reduces the risk of fines and prosecution.
The opportunities presented by sustainability are endless, and any business can start to act immediately.
The challenges and opportunities presented by climate change demand action, and to remain viable businesses are recognising that they must meet them head on. Rising fuel prices, increased water-shortages, changing weather patterns, escalating land-fill tax, emerging legislation – all of these things can impact on an organisation’s day-to-day operation. As customers become increasingly informed and aware of their own impact, suppliers through the supply chain are coming under increased pressure to take action, and be able to demonstrate that they are doing so.

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Sustainable Business Partnership (SBP) supports businesses looking to improve their sustainability, to meet today’s challenges and position themselves for the future. The message is clear: sustainability makes sound business sense. By taking action on their environmental, social and economic impacts businesses can save money by reducing costs, identifying new opportunities and creating new routes to market.
Hosted by Hampshire County Council’s Economic Development Office, the SBP brings together businesses and a wide range of local, regional and national support organisations and service providers. Working in particular with local SMEs, businesses are provided with the information and support they need to make informed decisions: identifying the actions appropriate to their own circumstances and following them through to gain maximum advantage. A programme of training, events and seminars, dissemination of information and coordination of sector activity – as well the ability to respond individually to specific enquiries – offers businesses the tools required to break down the issues and the resources to address them.
As part of the broad support package that it offers, the Sustainable Business Partnership is also able to provide free professional environmental audits to Hampshire and Isle of Wight businesses with a significant energy spend - please contact the Partnership directly (contact details below) for further details.
All of the services offered by the Sustainable Business Partnership are entirely free.
