Watch the next Cabinet meeting 25 June 2012

Hampshire County Council's next Cabinet meeting on Monday 25 June will be webstreamed, allowing more people to see the key discussions taking place. It is part of the Council's drive to increase transparency and encourage greater understanding and participation in how local decisions are made.

It will allow people the opportunity to see for themselves the key discussions taking place and the decisions on local services that are taken by County Councillors representing the views and interests of residents.

The Cabinet discussions will include:-  

• Working in partnership to improve the lives of all children and young people in Hampshire through an overarching strategy that focuses on preventative work and helping families to access support as early as possible.
• How the Council is doing in reducing its costs as part of its two year savings programme and its financial plans for the future
• How the Council has performed over the last year against its targets and key priorities and budget
• The Council’s strategy around key land holdings in Basingstoke, East Hampshire, Eastleigh and the New Forest

With so much of Hampshire being rural in nature, residents from all corners of the county who may not normally have the opportunity to attend meetings themselves, will be able to follow the discussions and debates that are streamed live over the internet, from a computer in their home, school or office. It will also be possible to watch the meeting afterwards and viewers will be able to skip through to individual items on the agenda or to individual speakers, making meetings even more accessible and open to all.

Government has actively encouraged councils to televise their proceedings. The County Council has a strong track record around transparency, and in line with the aims of the Government's Localism Act, by opening up some public meetings to a wider audience in this way, hopes that this will empower local residents and communities.
