Example of a job description for a Playworker
Purpose of job: to assist in the day to day organisation of the out of school club
Main duties:
Taking part in the day to day administration, record keeping, ordering and purchasing materials and equipment .
Providing safe, creative, appropriate play opportunities, preparing activities, organising the programme, etc.
Providing full care for the children, including: delivering children to school, collecting children from school and delivering them safely to their parents or carers. This may include providing refreshments.
Administering first aid as appropriate.
Encouraging parental involvement and support.
Close liaison with parents, schools and other childcare and play related agencies.
Attending meetings as appropriate.
Carrying out all responsibilities and activities within an equal opportunities framework.
Working within agreed policies.

Essential criteria:
An understanding of good quality childcare
A commitment to equal opportunities
Ability to provide safe, creative play
Ability to communicate at all levels
Experience of working with four to 12 (or 14) year olds
Ability to meet children’s individual needs
Ability to use judgement and common sense
Ability to work as part of a team
Desirable criteria:
A current first aid certificate
A current driving licence
Some experience of administration
Experience of working with a voluntary management committee (if appropriate)
Ability to work on own initiative
Childcare qualification or a willingness to work towards an NVQ in Playwork
