Glossary

The following terms and abbreviations are used throughout the training pages:

Appraisal
A two way discussion between a practitioner and their line manager focusing particularly on personal development, work targets, training needs and resources needed.

CPD
Continuous Professional Development

EYAT
Early Years Advisory Teacher

EYPS
Early Years Professional Status

GLF
Graduate Leader Fund

HTLC
Hampshire Teaching and Leadership College

Learner
The person who is undertaking the training.

Foundation Stage practitioner
A person who works directly with children aged 3-5 years in a Foundation Stage setting.

Personal Development Plan
A list of what an individual needs to do and how they will do it. It will identify new skills to be developed and the training necessary for this to happen.

Portfolio
A folder containing evidence of your learning and development.

Recruitment
The process of employing staff including writing job descriptions, advertising, interviewing, taking up references and offering contracts.

Retention
The process of keeping employees motivated and happy in their job to avoid staff turnover. It includes inductions, appraisals, training needs analysis, cpd, rewards and absence management.

Setting
The early education or childcare place where you work.
