Sure Start Children’s Centres in Hampshire

Hampshire County Council developed existing Sure Start local programmes, new and planned neighbourhood nurseries and early excellence centres in phase 1 (which covered the period 01 April 2004 to 31 March 2006).  Seven children’s centres achieved designation under this phase.

In phase 2 (which covered the period 01 April 2006 to 31 March 2008), the County Council continued to build on the work of other Early Years Centres as well as working with other voluntary, community and statutory partners across the county to develop a further 53 children’s centres serving 42,559 under 5s in Hampshire.

Hampshire County Council is currently undertaking consultation on the development of Sure Start Children’s Centres across the county, under phase 3 of the Government initiative (covering the period 01April 2008 to 31 March 2010). For further details, please visit the consultation web pages.

The Government's long term vision is that there will be a children’s centre in every community in England so that all families, not just those in the most disadvantaged areas, have access to high quality, integrated services.
