Welfare accommodation

Sometimes there is an urgent need to place a child or young person for their own welfare. We offer Local Authorities welfare accommodation on a short-term basis. As specified within Section 25 of the Children’s Act 1989, young people may be placed at Swanwick Lodge if:

  • they have a history of absconding and are likely to abscond from any other description of accommodation; and if they abscond, he/she is likely to suffer significant harm
  • OR that if they are kept in any other description of accommodation they are likely to injure themselves or other persons.

Children occupying one of our ‘welfare beds’ have full access to our staff and facilities during their time with us, however long it may be, and we will endeavour to make their transition to, and from, Swanwick Lodge as seamless as possible.

To check our current availability, please call us on 01489 581913.
