Financial support at 16

If you are 16 years old and are continuing your education and training, you may be eligible for the following financial support below.

  • 16 - 19 Bursary Fund provides support to young people to help you stay in education and training after 16. You can apply to your school, college or training provider.

  • Schools, colleges and training providers have bursary funds to help you if you’re studying or starting a course and face financial hardship.

  • Care to Learn can help you with childcare costs.

  • Post-16 participation support scheme helps young people from low income families to access post-16 education and training by offering financial support for transport costs.
Funds (apprioximately £247K per year) is distributed to colleges and training providers who then provide the support directly to students. The scheme aims to ensure that all young people have fair access to their prefered choice of post-16 education or training course and transport costs will not be a barrier to those from lower income families. It is conditional on young people having adequate attendance. This will run alongside the national post-16 bursary scheme and will only be available to students not eligible for support from this scheme. For more information, contact your education or training provider.
