Care Matters

Hampshire’s aspirations for children in care are no less than those each parent has for their own children. We aim to create a care system that provides every child with a safe, happy, secure and loving childhood, nurturing their aspirations and enabling them to fulfil their potential.

The Care Matters project objectives are ambitious but achievable:

  • Exercise excellent corporate parenting
  • Set high aspirations for children in care including the engagement of children in school, good attendance and performance
  • Ensure stable relationships for children in care and in school
  • Listen to the voice of the child
  • Secure improvements against the national performance indicators for children in care and compared to their peer group
  • Monitor and evaluate progress via an effective performance framework with dynamic use of data and the inspection template for children in care

A Pledge has been agreed with young people in care that sets out how Hampshire County Council are going to improve key issues that are important to them.
