Services for Young People
There are numerous information, advice and guidance services available for young people in Hampshire. These are provided by Hampshire County Council, the voluntary sector and the private sector.
Swine Flu guidance
If you want to know about swine flu, including what to do if you have flu like symptoms, visit our guidance pages.
We hope to provide you with pointers to some of the most useful services, and we have produced a pocket guide for young people aged 13-19 that lists some of the key services around the County.
We want to enable you to:
- be healthy;
- stay safe;
- enjoy and achieve;
- make a positive contribution and
- achieve economic well-being.
To help meets these aims, Hampshire County Council's Children's Services Department offers the following Services for Young People.

Hampshire Connexions offers a service to all young people aged between 13 and 19 (or up to 25 for young people who have learning difficulties and disabilities). We employ personal advisers who are able to give advice and guidance on issues you may be faced with,whatever they are.
You can find personal advisers in schools, colleges, information centres and locally in community venues across Hampshire.
Personal advisers offer a confidential service to:
- identify and meet your needs
- help you get involved in education, training and employment
- help you move successfully into adult life
- help you contact other agencies or organisations who can provide specialist help or services
More information about opening times, locations and what else the service offers can be found by calling 0845 603 5621, or on the Hampshire Connexions website.
You can also download a leaflet about Hampshire Connexions.
Youth teams
The youth teams work with young people across a variety of settings, including community locations, youth centres, on the streets, in specialist projects and offer one-to-one support. Young people choose to take part in the services offered, and will learn something from the experience. Unlike school or college however, young people who take part will not be learning from text books, but will be learning about themselves, their communities and the wider world.
'Youth work' is the general term used to describe work with young people where there are positive outcomes for young people. It is planned, delivered and evaluated with the young people who take part, and aims to be fun, safe, rewarding and open to all.
Participation team
The Children’s Service's Participation Team advises and supports practitioners working with children and young people around encouraging their engagement in the planning, delivery and evaluation of our services.
There are dedicated pages on the Participation Team, where you can also find out about UK Youth Parliament, Hampshire County Youth Council and the Change for children programme.
Information about how these services work with each other, and with other services in Hampshire, can be found in the Children and Young People's Plan.
You can also access information about the history of Services for Young People and the Youth Support project, including reports, presentations and project plans.
