Youth Development and Training Team

The Youth Development and Training team has five distinct but related aspects to its work:

  • The Training Team provides an extensive range of training to staff and volunteers from the Youth Service and partner organisations. It seeks to provide an integrated route to professional qualification, and has responsibility for leading the ongoing professional development of youth work staff.

  • The team of Development Youth Workers support and initiate a range of district based and county wide activities relating to their specific areas of work which include training, drugs education, participation, outdoor education and accreditation.

  • The Personnel team supports managers and staff through ensuring best practice in recruitment and selection are followed, developing and implementing fair and appropriate policies and procedures, and being a strong and consistent advocate for equalities.

  • The Youth Officer, Accreditation has responsibility for overseeing the accreditation of young people’s learning through youth work, using a number of accreditation programmes, but significantly  through the delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in 153 registered units across Hampshire.

  • The Award Project is a partnership between the Youth Service, Wessex Youth Offending Team and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award South East Region. It is an early intervention initiative that supports young people to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award with the aim of reducing re-offending and raising confidence and self-esteem.
