What is the UK Youth Parliament?
The UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) enables young people to use their energy and passion to change the world for the better. Run by young people for young people, UKYP gives 11-18 year olds a voice, which is heard and listened to by local and national government, providers of services for young people and other agencies who have an interest in the views and needs of young people.

How does the UKYP work in Hampshire?
Hampshire County Council has four allocated places on the Youth Parliament. Each member is supported by a deputy member, elected on a biannual basis by their peers. Members start their term in office on March 1st and spend their term campaigning on youth issues and representing the views of their constituents. A briefing for candidates and elections will take place in January 2013.
How can practitioners help?
- encourage young people to get involved;
- support the local MYP in carrying out their role;
- enable young people to vote, for example by hosting a polling station.
