Commission of Inquiry on Climate Change

The findings of the Commission of Inquiry were presented at Cabinet on the 16 November and then taken to Full Council on the 22 November 2007.  Both are available to download below (note, links will open as new browser windows)

The aim of the Commission was to consider the main areas of climate change impact, and to identify and prioritise action to build more local resilience to these impacts.  The County Council recognises that a significant change to the Hampshire climate is inevitable, and the focus of the Commission was to prioritise actions to address the impacts and consequences of such changes.

Four evidence hearings were held, at which the Commission considered evidence on key topic areas, including presentations from, and debate with, the evidence providers. The four evidence sessions were:

The Commission was chaired by the Leader of Hampshire County Council (Cllr Ken Thornber), with the Executive Member for Environment (Cllr Mel Kendal) as Vice Chairman.  Other commissioners included the leaders of the Liberal Democrat Group and the Labour Group and also selected external commissioners.  A full list of Commissioners is available to download Microsoft Word 32kb.
