The Coastal Landscape of Hampshire

The coastal landscape of Hampshire has great diversity, varying from the mostly undeveloped coast south of the New Forest to the area from Southampton to Hayling Island which has stretches of undeveloped coast as well as an urban coastline.

Two areas of undeveloped coast have been designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB):

South Hampshire Coast AONB from Hurst Spit to Calshot covering 7,604.hectares (18,790 acres).

Chichester Harbour AONB, about 25% of which is in Hampshire, total 403 hectares (996 acres).

About 19 kilometres (12 miles) of coastline are within or close to the New Forest Heritage area and the New Forest National Park.
