- Coast protection works on the East bank
Lead Organisation: Hampshire County Council, Environment Department
Work completed: 2004/05 and 2005/06
Contribution from Coastal Capital Budget: £7000 (project funded solely by Hampshire County Council)
Work was carried out near one of the culverts in 2004. The area is exposed to the prominent south westerly winds which have caused greater erosion than elsewhere along the footpath and was threatening to breach the pathway. The County Council replaced a 40-50m stretch of eroding defences with interlocking blocks. English Nature and the Environment Agency accepted the need for the blocks provided they were removable. More recently various sections have been repaired with concrete sandbags after winter storms threatened to undermine the defences.
- Construction of a Fishermens jetty at Warsash
Organisation: Hampshire County Council, Environment Department
Work completed: Completed Spring 2006.
Contribution from Coastal Capital Budget: £12,000
This joint £40,000 project was 50% funded through an EU fisheries grant, with the remainder from Hampshire County Council. A fisherman’s landing jetty was installed upstream of Warsash Slipway to improve health and safety conditions. The jetty is used by the small fleet of local fishing boats to land their catch at Warsash.Pictured: Councillor Knight and local fishermen at the opening of the Fishermen's Jetty at Warsash.
