Microsoft Office is the trade name of the office software for home or business use.

The term office software is often used to refer to the main types of application used by businesses and students, also to a lesser extent by individuals, three of these are:
Word processor - for writing documents, letters and reports
Spreadsheet - for managing numbers, formulas and charts
Presentation - for preparing slides and presentations

Microsoft Office is probably the most widely used business software, it is also used on many home computers and public access PCs.
The three main programmes are:
Word - for documents such as letters, notes and reports
Excel - for spreadsheets such as budgets, accounts and charts
PowerPoint - for presentation slides and demonstrations

Word
Word is a powerful word processing program that gives you the ability to:
create documents
write letters
prepare formal reports
It is used in businesses, at home and by students for everything from commercial documents to local society minutes and student homework.
You can insert tables of information, pictures, photos and spreadsheet data and charts (see Excel tab).

Excel
Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program which can be used to work with numbers, for example:
to create a budget
to plan your finances
to manage business accounts.
It is very easy to create a chart to show results in a picture format.

PowerPoint
Microsoft PowerPoint is a program that can be used:
to create presentations
to mix headings, text and graphics
to display slideshows
PowerPoint is used by students, businesses and teachers to create formal presentations to support lectures and meetings.
It can also be used for displaying photographs, charts and ideas.
