Talking on the web
Most people are used to using a telephone for conversations, but don't realise that you can make phone calls using your computer.
You will need a microphone and speakers, or a headset (as shown in the photo).
Internet phone calls
Internet phone calls can be made between computers if both people subscribe to an Internet phone service.
The basic Internet phone service is free, but you can pay for connection to landlines or mobiles.

Using a computer with a web camera (called a webcam) you can:
see video images from around the world
share video clips with friends and relatives anywhere

On the move
We used to only be able to make phone calls from fixed telephones at home, work or in a red phone box.
One of the explosions in technology of the late 20th Century has been mobile communications.
This enables people of all ages to keep in touch with friends and family on the move.

Mobile phones come in many different makes and types, key functions include:
making phone calls anywhere (signals to remote areas continue to improve)
sending text messages, simple messages sent to a mobile phone screen
taking photos
accessing the internet.
