Google tools

In addition to Google's powerful search, there are a number of very useful tools which are all free to download and use.

Google Mail

Have a go at setting up an e-mail account using Google Mail.

Try it now!

  1. Go to www.google.co.uk*

  2. Click Mail and then click Pick my name, you now need to fill out the form to create your account

  3. First you create an email address - type your chosen name in Desired Login Name and click check availability
    (the name can be anything you like, it doesn’t have to be your real name and can use letters & numbers but no spaces)

    If your chosen name is not available, you will be offered some alternatives or you can try another name of your own choosing

  4. You then need to choose a password and a security question to remind you of your password should you ever forget it

  5. Complete the rest of the form, read the Terms of Service and click I accept. Create my account

  6. To sign into your e-mail account, go to www.google.co.uk* and click Mail

    Type in your Username and Password (your Username is the same as your email address) - make sure that this box is not ticked if you are using a public computer.  Any new messages you have received will show in your Inbox.

Google Calendar

Google calendar

With Google Calendar you can keep track of all the events in you life from birthdays to reminders to pay a bill. You can also share your calendars with friends and family. You can add and create events and even send out invitations.

If you have a Google email account you can use the calendar alongside it. Google mail will recognise event information in emails you have been sent. You can then easily add these into your calendar

You can also set up automatic event reminders, including notifications to your mobile

To use Google Calendar you will need to create a Google account, which is free.

 

Google Earth

Google Earth

Google Earth lets you fly anywhere on Earth to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings and even explore galaxies in the Sky. You can explore rich geographical content, save your toured places and share with others.

To use Google Earth you will need to download the software from here http://earth.google.com/*.
