Hampshire’s Countryside

The beautiful Hampshire countryside, an ideal backdrop for outdoor activities

Foot and Mouth update

Updated 17 October 2007

Following the latest DEFRA announcement that the movement restrictions of livestock have been lifted in most parts of the Country. The earliest date that the Surveillance Zone can be lifted is the 5 November, so long as there is no further out break of Foot and Mouth Disease.

No rights of way in Hampshire have been closed as a result of the Foot and Mouth Disease. Farmers may still have bio-security measures in place so please respect any measure of this type when out in the Countryside.

Hampshire is largely a rural County so please support our farmers and land managers together with their livestock during this time.

A map showing the surveillance zone is on the DEFRA website.

Bluetongue

As of the 30 September DEFRA announced a protection zone for the Bluetongue disease. There has been a minor amendment to the existing zone, due to the confirmation of a further case in Essex. Parts of Hampshire are wholly within the Bluetongue  protection zones, and these are for the districts of

Basingstoke and Deane, Eastleigh, East Hampshire, Winchester, Test Valley, Fareham, Havant and Rushmoor.
