About us
Danebury Iron Age hill fort is managed by the Hampshire's Countryside Service. The first parcel of land 'The Ring' was purchased in 1958 and today the site covers 40 hectares, which includes woods, chalk grass land and scrub.
At Danebury we aim to improve the SSSI, protect the Scheduled Ancient Monument and provide safe and enjoyable access for the visitor. 12.8 hectares (31.6 acres) of Danebury was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1979.
Wildlife surveys are an ongoing task, carried out by ourselves or volunteers. The information gathered helps us to identify areas that may need special management and may dictate the time of year that tasks are done. All of the wildlife information is collated by Hampshire Biodiversity Information centre, who hold a data base of species found across the entire County.
