Queen Elizabeth Country Park

Lyme Disease

  • During the main visitor season, from Spring through to Autumn, it is best to be on the alert for ticks which can be found in dense vegetation and woodland across the Park. A bite from a tick can carry Lyme Disease which in its early stages produces a rash and flu like symptoms. Preventative measures include wearing long sleeved clothing and tucking trousers into socks. In addition it is sensible to check yourself, children and pets for signs of ticks and to remove them by gripping close to the skin and pulling firmly. The Visitor Centre shop sells a small tool that you can carry with you for this very purpose.
