James McAuslandVisit on Sat;8th Dec'12: We usually always enjoy our visits, great staff in the shop and cafe. BUT, today in the Meon shore hide was a noisy meeting (not sure if some were volunteers or members of a local camera club). As the talk of f-stops,digi-scopeing and holidays in Botswana got louder and louder, we left. The hide even has a notice outside 'Quiet please, birds have ears'.

G E HarmsHave always enjoyed my visits to the haven followed by a visit to the cafe but after today I think the cafe will be a no no what a let down with a rubbish menu. Usual cut backs I suppose will be put forward as the reason.

Kate ChurchwardI took my daughters (aged four and eight) to a pond dipping session at the Haven during half term week. Even though it was absolutely torrential rain, we thoroughly enjoyed our time! The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful, and even lent me a pair of waterproof trousers! I would definitely recommend it and will be returning again.

kathy emmottLast Sunday I came to the centre at 3.10 and there was only 50 minutes left so I asked if I could have discount to get in. I did this in a freindly way. and was told no but decided to go in anyway. I was also told one of the hides would close at 3.45 but had to ask where it was as I did not know the name. The volunteer was really rude throughout and stared at me as if I was a piece of rubbish. I love Titchfield Haven but was made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.
Also I do think you should give reduced cahrge for the last hour.

We are sorry that you were made to feel unwelcome on your visit to the reserve. We take our customer service seriously and these issues will be addressed with the volunteer concerned.
As a rule we don't give any discounts and do advise that as it takes 2-3 hours to visit the Nature Reserve and to enjoy the whole experience of visiting the Reserve. Customers arriving near closing time are advised of the many local public footpaths close to the Visitor Centre where they can watch birds and other wildlife.

Vic&BabsA and ChrisBA blowy morning, we saw 2 white egrets, a grey heron - beautiful winter plumage, dunlin, coot, cormorants, ?one sort of plover, lots of gulls and small waders, and two small birds who were having a great time 'dancing' in the wind, about 6' above the bushes, near the bridge by the visitor center. Sadly we couldn't identify them. Any ideas, please?
The 'icing on the cake' was the resplendent green woodpecker in a garden at Hillhead. We will return!!

Angela FordA first visit to Tichfield to observe a ringing session. Arrived promptly at 6.00 am, weather cloudy but not cold, to be met by Brian who was leading the session. Didn't really know what to expect but there was a very efficient recorder and two trained ringers working their way through a couple of dozen bagged birds. They took the time to explain all the measurements being taken and the scales used to identfy age and fat reserves etc. My nephew, who had booked the trip and knows about these things, was thrilled by his first close up of a grasshopper warbler. Then a trainee ringer appeared from the nets positively laden with fluttering bags. By the end of the 3 hour session more than 150 birds had been ringed, mainly warblers which are normally those small brown birds you catch with the corner of the eye but have disappeared before you can get the bins in place.
Quite frankly if anyone gets the chance to join a ringing session, jump at it. It was amazing to be able to see the details of plumage, compare adults and juveniles which would be impossible in the field and all with such patient experts. Also to appreciate the importance of Tichfield as a final fuelling stop before these tiny little creatures make their way across the Channel.
After much needed refreshment in the Cafe we spent the rest of the day in the reserve observing a good selection of the usual stuff and were rewarded by two Garganey.

RodAs an amatuer wildlife photographer I give Titchfield Haven 10 /10.
At last, hides that are placed so the light comes at an angle allowing good photographs to be taken. Too many hides are facing the sun so your shooting the shadow side of the birds.
The people are very knowledgeable,,kind and friendly.
The tea room is very clean and the waitress service is welcome,,they even give milk in little jugs and not those wretched packets.
PARKING is FREE,,what a bonus.
On a bad weather day in July, in just 800 yards and 1 hour I saw, Avocets,Godwits,Common Turn,Heron,Egrit,Lapwing,Red and Green Shanks,Common Sandpiper,Signets,Ducklings (mallard, moorhen and goose).
BRILLIANT PLACE!

Colin JefferyI have been to Titchfield Haven several times and have been really impressed with the facilities. The 6 hides are cosy and well sited, and are kept clean and well maintained. The signage around the reserve is informative without being intrusive. There is a small but well stocked shop and refreshments are available in the cafe. To me, one of the delights is the helpfulness of the staff and volunteers, who are always ready to assist.
