All Age Career Service – Careers Education
As part of a Government website rationalisation programme, from April 2011 Connexions Direct will become part of Directgov to offer wider online support for young people, bringing careers, work and learning advice and information together in one place. Connexions Direct is supported entirely by government funding and is subject to certain constraints on how it operates.
Young people continue to have access to the Connexions Direct helpline to provide up-to-date information on a range of teen issues, particularly careers advice and guidance. From April 2011, there will be links to the online helpline channels (e-mail, web chat) from Directgov and the helpline continues to be offered by telephone: 080 800 13219 and text message: 07766 413219.
The jobs4u database within Connexions Direct is no longer being updated. Current career profiles can be found in Next Step at nextstep.direct.gov.uk/planningyourcareer/jobprofiles/Pages/default.aspx.
By April 2012 the government plans to introduce a high quality, unified careers service. Both Directgov and an all-age service will provide clear signposting to other services including apprenticeships and Jobcentre Plus (JCP) services.
